I’ve never played The Secret World, despite years of people telling me it would be my jam. When Funcom decided to use some existing assets to tell a more focused story in a non-MMO game, I was jazzed.
Lorraine is a single mother who has lost track of her son, Callum, at an abandoned amusement park that was the site of many happy memories for the both of them. On her search for Callum, Lorraine is faced with accusatory scenes about her failures as a mother and as a person.
This short game is something of a shambles, and it displays a shocking ignorance of the way mental illness and psychiatric treatment work, but it does some very neat things in its back half to show what it’s like when a life spirals out of control.
