Murphy Pendleton is a condemned man. Downpour opens with Pendleton stabbing someone to death in a prison shower. While being transferred for this transgression, his prison bus goes off the road. Murphy is the sole survivor, but he’s pursued by a corrections officer with a very intense, and very specific grudge… making him flee right into the jaws of Silent Hill.
Downpour is the final mainline Silent Hill game, and I had some pretty fond memories of it. It takes some risks by altering the presentation of the Otherworld, and by making Silent Hill itself more open and explorable. However, the combat system and instant death stakes made this an un-fun slog to play through.
